These nuts are somewhat larger as well as thicker compared to the standard (finished) hex nuts. Heavy hex nuts are available in numerous grades. Besides, the heavy pattern is generally used for bolts with high strength and large diameter. Our nut compatibility chart will help you determine the heavy hex nut(s) that are compatible with a particular grade of bolt. As hot-dip galvanizing generally adds 2.2 - 5 mils thickness to a fastener’s threaded portion, our galvanized heavy hex nuts get tapped oversize so as to balance the bolts’ corrosion resistant coating.
